2009 Carnival A Huge Success

The 2009 Oundle Carnival went down as a resounding hit with all who attended and took part. It is estimated that up to 4,000 people were involved throughout the 12 hour programme. Following Carnival Day, the organising committee was overwhelmed with messages of support and thanks from those who attended. The event raised an estimated £5,000 for the two Carnival Charities. Thanks go out to everyone who attended and helped make the day such an overwhelming success.

We Now Need a Local Carnival Charity

The Oundle Carnival in 2009 was estimated to have raised near to £5,000 for charity however the organisers think we can do better. Now that the framework for the event has been put in place, the Carnival Committee have pledged to give more attention to improving the fundraising side of the event. Last year the groups selected to receive funds were a national charity (Help for Heroes) and a regional charity (Warks & Northants Air Ambulance). For 2010 it has been decided that a third ‘local charity’ should also be included. Do you know of a suitable local cause or charity based in the Oundle area? We know that the bringing Carnival back to Oundle last year was a widely appreciated. How? You told us after the event by email and personal feedback to carnival committee members. You also told us that there were a number of areas to improve on. If you have not had your say, then let us know your feedback now so we can consider all ideas for making 2010 a better event. Want to Get Involved? Committee Seeks Ideas People & Doers

Bringing Carnival back to Oundle after a thirty year absence took an enormous amount of effort last year. Now that the event is back on the local calendar it is up to the organisers to make sure that the day remains a highlight of the summer for as many people as possible in the community.

If you have ideas, time or effort to give then you will be welcomed to join the Carnival Organising Committee. The current committee is made up of representatives from schools, businesses local groups and individuals - anyone can get involved.

Meetings last about an hour and are held at least once a month. NB. The Committee is not too formal and meetings are usually quite light-hearted (often with a glass of wine available). We think we have a pretty good Carnival Website, but the question has been asked: “would you follow us on Twitter or Facebook?”. The Carnival Committee is looking at all options to improve the event and would value your opinion on this or any ideas for improved communication.
