Oundle Carnival on Hold
Dear Residents, Business Owners and Supporters
It is with great regret that I have to inform you that the Oundle Carnival Event has now been put on hold for the foreseeable future.
In the 4 years between 2009 to 2012 that Carnival was brought back to Oundle, the event had become a central part of the Oundle Calendar. Enjoyed and appreciated for its entertainment, the quality of the days’ festivities but mostly for the Parade, it is something we were all very proud of. It captured your imagination and signaled a day of pleasure forthcoming. The Carnival Parade through the Town was always exciting, loud and stimulated the senses with a multitude of floats and walkers; children and cars; music and performers alike enjoying a tremendous reception.
Sadly the event is now on hold due to a diminishing committee and recent efforts resulting in disappointing levels of interest from paraders and volunteers. Despite a great deal of hard work and effort from the Carnival Committee the last planned event in 2013 could not get the bands and pipers; the music and quantity of entries to give the Parade the critical mass we needed to ensure the usual spectacle. We deliberated very hard, it was not an easy decision at all, but, given our over-riding sense of responsibility to provide the best event we possibly could, we decided that we would rather put on a full programme as opposed to a diminished event and have thus put Oundle Carnival on hold for the timebeing.
Many of you will be disappointed, I can assure you none more than us as the Carnival Committee, however we have to thank all of you who have committed time and energy over the years in preparing for Oundle’s Carnivals. We are very sorry if you feel let down.
